🧺 Ingredients
- 100g cooked mackerel (bones removed, flaked)
- 40g cooked pumpkin (mashed)
- 1 tsp water or plain bone broth
- Pinch of dried catnip (optional)
👩🍳 Method
- Cook or use tinned mackerel in spring water — drain and remove every bone carefully.
- Steam pumpkin until soft, then mash smoothly.
- Flake the mackerel finely and check thoroughly for bones.
- Combine mackerel and pumpkin, loosening with a little water or plain broth to a soft mash.
- Serve a small portion at room temperature as a topper or light meal.
- Refrigerate the rest in an airtight container.
Nutrition: Mackerel is exceptionally high in omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) that support skin, coat, and joint health, while pumpkin adds soluble fibre to steady digestion.
📝 Notes
Use mackerel in spring water, never brine or oil, and always debone thoroughly. Oily fish is a treat food — offer a few times a week, not daily. Store in the fridge up to 2 days.
