🧺 Ingredients

  • 150g rabbit meat, boneless and skinless
  • 30g rabbit or chicken liver
  • 1 egg yolk to bind
  • A pinch of dried parsley (optional)

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Mince or finely chop the rabbit and liver together until you have a smooth mixture.
  2. Stir in the egg yolk and parsley to bind everything into a soft dough.
  3. Roll into small, pea-sized bites and place on a lined baking tray.
  4. Bake at 175°C for around 15 minutes until cooked through and firm.
  5. Cool completely before serving one or two as a treat, and refrigerate the rest for up to four days.
Nutrition: Both rabbit and liver are rich natural sources of taurine, the essential amino acid cats cannot make enough of themselves, while rabbit offers a lean, novel protein that many cats have never encountered.

📝 Notes

Liver is nutrient-dense and high in vitamin A, so keep it to no more than about 5% of the recipe and offer these bites as an occasional treat rather than a meal. Rabbit is a genuine novel protein, useful for cats on an elimination diet, but check with your vet first if you are managing a diagnosed food allergy.

⚕️ Before you cook for your cat

  • Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
  • Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
  • Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
