Homemade cat food
Chicken & Blueberry Bites
Soft, protein-rich baked morsels of chicken studded with a few antioxidant-packed blueberries — a wholesome, grain-free treat most cats find irresistible.

- Easy
- Time
- 25 min
- Makes
- About 20 small bites
🧺 Ingredients
- 150 g cooked skinless chicken breast (plain, no salt or seasoning)
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp chickpea or oat flour
- 6–8 fresh blueberries, finely chopped
👩🍳 Method
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking tray with parchment.
- Finely chop or briefly blitz the cooked chicken into a fine, mince-like texture.
- Mix the chicken, egg, and flour into a firm dough — add a little more flour if it is too wet to handle.
- Fold in the finely chopped blueberries so they are evenly distributed.
- Roll into small pea-to-marble-sized bites and flatten each slightly on the tray.
- Bake for 15–18 minutes until firm and lightly golden, then cool completely before serving.
Nutrition: Chicken breast is a lean, highly digestible source of complete animal protein, while a small amount of blueberry adds antioxidants and fibre. Blueberries are non-toxic and safe for cats in tiny amounts, but cats are obligate carnivores, so the fruit is a token garnish rather than a nutritional mainstay.
📝 Notes
Treats should make up no more than 10% of your cat's daily calories — a couple of bites a day is plenty. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days, or freeze for up to 2 months. Introduce any new treat gradually, and skip the blueberries entirely if your cat has a sensitive stomach.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
