Figaro

Figaro is the small black-and-white tuxedo kitten who belongs to the woodcarver Geppetto in Disney's 1940 animated film 'Pinocchio'. Playful, sulky, and endlessly expressive, Figaro shares Geppetto's home with the goldfish Cleo and provides much of the film's warmth and comedy as the household waits and hopes for their wooden boy to come to life.

Figaro proved so appealing that he became a favourite of Walt Disney himself, who reportedly wanted the kitten used as often as possible. Figaro went on to star in his own series of short cartoons in the 1940s and was later paired with Minnie Mouse as her pet cat, an unusual promotion for a character who began as a supporting player in a feature film.

With his big eyes, expressive tail, and mixture of mischief and affection, Figaro became one of the definitive animated depictions of a kitten, and he remains a recognisable member of the wider Disney family of characters more than eighty years after his debut.
