- A shallow cardboard box or storage tray
- An old towel or soft blanket
- A few small toys or treats to hide
🔧 How to make it
- Choose a low-sided box your cat can step into easily.
- Loosely layer a soft old towel inside, leaving plenty of folds and pockets.
- Tuck two or three small toys or treats down into the folds.
- Ruffle the towel to show your cat there is something hidden inside.
- Let them dig, burrow and fish out the treasures at their own pace.

Loose folds are key — a towel packed in flat gives nothing to dig at. Refreshing the hidden toys each day keeps the box feeling new and worth exploring.
Safety: Use a clean, fray-free towel and check that no loose threads can wrap around toes. Supervise enthusiastic diggers, and wash the towel regularly to keep the box hygienic.
