🧺 Ingredients
- 120g skinless, boneless white fish (cod, haddock, or pollock)
- 40g cooked pumpkin (plain, mashed)
- 1 tbsp cooked, finely chopped courgette
- 1 tsp fish oil or the reserved fish cooking water
👩🍳 Method
- Gently poach or steam the white fish in plain water until it is opaque and flakes easily, around 6–8 minutes.
- Let the fish cool, then flake it thoroughly with a fork, checking meticulously for any bones.
- Mash the cooked pumpkin until smooth and stir in the finely chopped courgette.
- Fold the flaked fish through the vegetables to make a moist, even mixture.
- Loosen with a little reserved cooking water or a teaspoon of fish oil so it is easy to eat.
- Serve at room temperature and refrigerate the rest promptly.
Nutrition: White fish is lean, highly digestible, and rich in protein while being naturally low in fat — useful for cats needing a gentle meal. Pumpkin adds soluble fibre that supports healthy digestion, and a touch of fish oil provides omega-3 fatty acids for skin and coat.
📝 Notes
White fish should be an occasional meal rather than a daily staple, as fish lacks some nutrients cats need long-term and can affect vitamin E levels if overfed. Always double-check for bones. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. This dish is intended as a topper or occasional meal, not a complete replacement for a balanced, vet-approved diet.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
