Turkey & Carrot Hydration Broth
A light, unsalted turkey and carrot broth that slips extra moisture into the diet of cats who do not drink enough on their own.
- Difficulty
- Easy
- Time
- 40 min
- Makes
- About 8 small portions
🧺 Ingredients
- 150 g skinless turkey breast
- 1 small carrot, roughly chopped
- 600 ml plain water, no salt or stock cubes
👩🍳 Method
- Place the turkey, carrot and water in a pan and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Simmer slowly for around 30 minutes until the turkey is fully cooked through.
- Lift out the turkey and carrot, then strain the liquid and let it cool completely.
- Shred a little of the cooked turkey back into the broth for texture if you like.
- Serve a few tablespoons at room temperature, and refrigerate the rest for up to two days or freeze in an ice-cube tray.
Nutrition: The real value here is water: a tasty broth encourages reluctant drinkers to take in more fluid, supporting kidney and urinary-tract health, while lean turkey adds a little gentle protein and cooked carrot lends natural sweetness and beta-carotene.
📝 Notes
Use only plain water with no salt, onion, garlic or shop-bought stock, as these are harmful to cats. This broth is a hydrating extra rather than a complete meal, and it is especially useful for cats recovering from illness or those on dry food who tend to drink too little.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
