Quail Egg & Turkey Kitten Custard
A soft, gently set savoury custard of quail egg and finely minced turkey — an easy-to-lap treat for weaning kittens and fussy convalescing cats.

- Easy
- Time
- 20 min
- Makes
- About 6 tiny portions
🧺 Ingredients
- 1 quail egg (or half a small hen egg)
- 1 tbsp cooked, finely minced plain turkey breast
- 1 tbsp plain unsalted meat broth or water
👩🍳 Method
- Whisk the quail egg with the broth or water until smooth and evenly combined.
- Stir in the finely minced cooked turkey so it is well distributed.
- Pour into a small heatproof dish and set it in a shallow tray of hot water, or steam gently.
- Cook on a low heat until just set and no longer runny, then cool completely to lukewarm.
- Mash lightly to a soft custard and offer a teaspoon; refrigerate any extra and use within a day.
Nutrition: Egg supplies highly digestible complete protein and the sulphur amino acids that support a healthy coat, while lean turkey adds gentle, easy-to-eat protein — a soft texture that suits weaning kittens and recovering cats.
📝 Notes
Always cook the egg fully — never serve raw egg to cats. Keep portions tiny and offer as an occasional soft treat; weaning kittens should still get a complete kitten diet as their main food.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
