👩🍳 Method
- Chop the cooked prawns very finely, checking they are plain and fully shelled.
- Mash them with the chopped cooked egg white and the oat flour into a stiff mix.
- Roll into tiny pea-sized bites and flatten each slightly.
- Bake on lined parchment at 160°C for about 10 to 12 minutes until firm and dry.
- Cool completely and refrigerate in an airtight tub for up to four days, or freeze.
Nutrition: Prawns and egg white are both almost entirely protein with barely any fat, making these bites one of the leanest reward treats you can offer a cat that needs to shed a little weight without giving up the ritual of a tasty snack.
📝 Notes
Because these are almost pure lean protein with very little fat, they are a handy training or reward treat for an overweight cat on a weight-management plan — but treats of any kind should stay under about a tenth of daily calories, and prawns and shellfish are an occasional food, not a staple. Skip this recipe for any cat with a known seafood sensitivity, and always serve prawns plain, never the garlicky or salted kind meant for people.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
