Guinea Fowl & Pumpkin Gentle Mince
Poached guinea fowl flaked through soft pumpkin — a less common game bird that makes a gentle, unfamiliar poultry option for fussy or sensitive cats.
- Difficulty
- Easy
- Time
- 30 min
- Makes
- About 10 small portions
🧺 Ingredients
- 100 g guinea fowl breast, skinless and boneless
- 1 tbsp plain cooked pumpkin puree (not spiced pie filling)
- 1 tbsp plain water, to loosen
👩🍳 Method
- Poach the guinea fowl breast in plain water until cooked all the way through, then lift out and cool.
- Check the meat carefully for any small bones and shred it finely.
- Fold the shredded guinea fowl through the plain pumpkin puree, adding a splash of the cooking water to reach a soft mince.
- Serve a small spoonful at room temperature.
- Refrigerate the rest in a sealed container and use within two days.
Nutrition: Guinea fowl is a lean, digestible game bird and a useful less-common poultry for cats bored of chicken and turkey, while a spoon of pumpkin adds soluble fibre that supports steady digestion.
📝 Notes
Use plain pumpkin puree with no added spices, sugar or salt — never spiced pie filling. Guinea fowl is a lean poultry many cats have not tried, so introduce it gradually and offer it as an occasional treat rather than a complete diet.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
