- Easy
- Time
- 30 min
- Makes
- About 6 small portions
🧺 Ingredients
- 120 g skinless chicken breast
- 2 tbsp cooked, mashed sweet potato
- 2–3 tbsp of the plain chicken cooking water
👩🍳 Method
- Poach the chicken breast gently in plain water until cooked right through with no pink remaining.
- Lift out the chicken, reserving the cooking water, and let it cool slightly before shredding finely.
- Mash the shredded chicken together with the cooked sweet potato.
- Loosen the mash to a soft, spoonable texture with a little of the reserved cooking water.
- Serve a small spoonful lukewarm as a topper and refrigerate any extra for up to two days.
Nutrition: Lean chicken provides highly digestible, muscle-supporting protein while a modest amount of sweet potato adds soft texture, gentle fibre and beta-carotene — a soothing, easy-to-eat combination for tempting fussy eaters or cats getting their appetite back after illness.
📝 Notes
Use plain chicken and plain sweet potato with no salt, butter, onion or garlic. Serve as an occasional topper over balanced food rather than a complete diet, and warm gently to body temperature to tempt a poorly or fussy cat.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
