Chicken & Pumpkin Frozen Lick Cubes
Cooling, lickable cubes of chicken broth and pumpkin — a refreshing summer treat that also sneaks in extra hydration.
- Difficulty
- Easy
- Time
- 10 min plus freezing
- Makes
- About 8 cubes
🧺 Ingredients
- 150 ml unsalted chicken broth (plain, no onion or garlic)
- 2 tbsp plain cooked pumpkin purée
- 2 tbsp finely shredded cooked chicken
👩🍳 Method
- Whisk together the unsalted chicken broth and pumpkin purée until smooth.
- Stir in the finely shredded cooked chicken so it is evenly distributed.
- Pour the mixture into a small ice-cube tray or silicone mould.
- Freeze for several hours until solid.
- Pop out one cube at a time and offer it in a shallow bowl, or let it soften slightly for cats that prefer a lickable slush.
Nutrition: These cubes turn hydration into a treat: the broth base encourages fluid intake, pumpkin adds soothing fibre and shredded chicken brings tempting protein, all in a cooling form ideal for hot days.
📝 Notes
Make sure any broth is unsalted and free of onion and garlic, which are toxic to cats. Serve as an occasional treat, especially in warm weather, and supervise so your cat licks rather than gulps a whole frozen cube. Keeps frozen for up to a month.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
