🧺 Ingredients

  • 80 g chicken hearts, trimmed
  • 40 g chicken liver
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 tbsp plain water or unsalted bone broth

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 175°C (155°C fan) and line a small baking tray with parchment.
  2. Rinse the hearts and liver, pat dry, and blitz or finely chop them to a smooth paste.
  3. Mix in the beaten egg and just enough water to make a soft, spoonable mixture.
  4. Drop small teaspoon-sized mounds onto the tray, spacing them apart.
  5. Bake for about 18–20 minutes until firm and cooked right through, then cool completely before serving one or two; refrigerate the rest for up to three days.
Nutrition: Chicken heart and liver are among the best natural sources of taurine, an essential amino acid cats cannot make in sufficient amounts and which is vital for healthy heart muscle, vision and reproduction — making these bites a genuinely nourishing occasional treat.

📝 Notes

Use plain poultry offal with no salt, onion, garlic or seasoning, and cook it thoroughly. Offal is rich, so serve these as an occasional treat rather than a meal, and introduce them gradually to avoid an upset tummy.

⚕️ Before you cook for your cat

  • Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
  • Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
  • Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
