Bison & Sweet Potato Novel-Protein Mince
Gently cooked lean bison with a little soft sweet potato — an uncommon red meat that gives cats reacting to beef or chicken a fresh protein to try.

- Time
- 30 min
- Makes
- About 10 small portions
🧺 Ingredients
- 100 g lean minced bison
- 1 tbsp plain cooked, mashed sweet potato

👩🍳 Method
- Dry-cook the minced bison in a non-stick pan over a low heat, breaking it up until no pink remains, and drain off any fat.
- Let the meat cool to just warm.
- Stir the plain mashed sweet potato through the cooled bison, loosening with a splash of water to a soft mince.
- Serve a small spoonful at room temperature.
- Refrigerate the rest in a sealed container and use within two days.
Nutrition: Bison is a lean red meat and a genuine novel protein, useful for elimination-style trials in cats sensitive to beef or poultry, while a little sweet potato adds gentle fibre and beta-carotene.
📝 Notes
Cook the bison plainly with no onion, garlic, salt or seasoning of any kind. Keep sweet potato to a small amount — it is a garnish for palatability and fibre, not the main event, since cats are obligate carnivores.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
