Cygnus Regulus Powers was a silver Maine Coon from Farmington Hills, Michigan, whose spectacular plume of a tail measured 44.66 cm (17.58 in) — the longest tail ever recorded on a domestic cat by Guinness World Records.
As a Maine Coon, one of the largest and most luxuriously coated of all cat breeds, Cygnus carried his feather-duster tail with obvious flair, and he became a social-media favourite for his glamorous, oversized good looks. He shared his home with another record-holder, a Savannah cat named Arcturus who was recognised as the tallest domestic cat.
Sadly, both cats died in a house fire in late 2017, a loss that was widely mourned by the cats' many online followers. Cygnus is remembered as a gentle giant of a cat whose extraordinary tail set a benchmark that has kept his name in the record books ever since.
