When Felix the Huddersfield railway station cat became a national celebrity, complete with her own 'Senior Pest Controller' hi-vis and a bestselling book, the station team decided she could use some help. In 2018 a lively black-and-white kitten named Bolt arrived to become her apprentice, and the pairing quickly won over the commuters who pass through the West Yorkshire station every day.
Where Felix is the calm, seasoned professional, Bolt earned his name with sheer energy — a bundle of curiosity forever exploring the platforms, chasing anything that moved and greeting passengers with kittenish enthusiasm. The staff documented his settling-in on Felix's hugely popular social media pages, and the two cats became a double act, with Bolt gradually learning the routines of station life from his senior colleague.
Like Felix before him, Bolt turned a busy commuter station into something a little warmer and more human. Travellers began looking out for him on their journeys, and the pair featured together in follow-up books and merchandise that raise money for charity. Bolt's story is a small, cheering example of how an ordinary working cat can become a genuine part of a community, brightening the daily grind of thousands of commuters simply by being there to say hello.
